  • Environment Month 2011: Living Sustainably...Towards a Green Economy, was officially launched last Friday evening on the grounds of the Bellairs Research Institute, Folkestone, St. James.  In his feature address, Minister of the Environment  Denis Kellman, stressed that the relationship between the Institute and its neighbour, the Folkstone Park and Marine Reserve, served to illustrate the importance of partnerships for environmental progress.
    Mr. Kellman pointed out that alliances and outreach in various sectors were both vital ingredients to the Ministry's efforts to increase environmental awareness.

  • The National Conservation Commission, the co-coordinating agency for National Arbor Day (celebrated on September 22nd annually), a day for planting trees, is continuing its efforts to promote the planting and preservation of trees this year under the theme “ TREES; The Circle of Life”.
     
    As part of this year’s celebrations, the Commission will be hosting the 5th annual Arbor Expo at Queen’s Park, St. Michael on Saturday September 24, 2011 commencing at 10:00am until 6:00pm. No admission will be charged.

  • Acting Minister of the Environment, Water Resources and Drainage, Dennis Kellman is on the job! Minister Kellman, a Parliamentarian of some 16 years, who was elevated to the front-bench following the illness of the substantive Minister, Dr. Denis Lowe, spent his first official day in office.

  • Following the passing of Tropical Storm Tomas, there is evidence of widespread damage and destruction to trees across the island.

    The Commission is therefore seeking to develop a plan for their replacement and wishes to solicit the assistance of the general public in determining the location of these fallen or damaged trees to facilitate the aforementioned exercise.

  • The National Conservation Commission (NCC) has advised the public that the Worthing Beach, Christ Church, will be temporarily closed from 6:00 a.m. today (November 09, 2010), until 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (November 10, 2010).
  • The public is advised that Farley Hill Park will remain closed until further notice to facilitate clean-up operations following the passing of Tropical Storm Tomas. Any inconvenience caused is regretted.
  • The National Conservation Commission shares and promotes the vision of the Late Prime Minister, The Hon. David J. H. Thompson in recognizing the family as the most crucial social unit.

  • The Barbados Lifeguard Service is 10 men stronger after the successful completion of the 2010 training course by another batch of recruits.

  • Rangers from the National Conservation Commission (NCC) are brushing up on their job-related skills.
    According to the NCC's Special Projects Officer, Ricardo Marshall, some 23 Rangers/Wardens are currently participating in a 19-day training programme being conducted at the Iris Bonnochie Training Centre, Codrington St. Michael.
